Things to do in Gauteng over the long weekend

Did the long weekend sneak up on you? Are you strapped cash and prefer to stay home? Well, I have a few great things to keep you and the family busy over the long weekend in Gauteng.

If you are like me and enjoy a good glass of wine, Fijnwyn should definitely be on your to-do list. The event is based at Shokran which is a unique events venue situated in a tranquil farm setting amid pecan nut and almond plantations only 12km from Woodlands Boulevard. It is the ideal setting for families to enjoy a day where they will feast their senses on wine, food and music. The market runs from the 27th-28th April 2018

If you love crafts then Kamers/Makers 2018 is definitely the event for you. It is a pop-up treasure trove of handcrafted creativity. It is all about bringing creative people together by sharing and collaborating on ideas. Plus you can get some really cool crafts. The market runs from the 25 – 29 April 2018

Support a great cause and have a little fun at the same time. Lusito Land runs from the 26 April to 6 May 2018 and is in aid of a non-profit organisation, for Children with Disabilities. It is a cultural experience for the entire family with enjoyment for all ages from Portuguese folk dancing, top local artists, and mouth-watering food.

Go old school with the Camera Obscura at the University of Pretoria. This camera is the precursor to the modern day camera and can be used to see the whole of Pretoria. We suggest going through in the morning to enjoy the maximum light. Entrance is free but there is a donation box. Be sure to call ahead to avoid disappointment. 012 420 3767

Take the kids acrobranching at the Big Red Barn. If you weren’t lucky enough to enjoy this activity at Off the Beat ‘n Track, this is one that kids and adult can enjoy. You get to spend the day up in the trees and get some exercise at the same time.
